Making Liquors

We have discovered a wonderful, new little pastime, making our own liquers and cordials. I say "new", as it is new to us, but the products have been around for years. We just never tried them. We have now and I don't think I will ever buy another liquer in the liquor store!

To make these little treats, all you need is the liquer extract, 750 ml of vodka or other non-flavored alcohol and, in some cases, table sugar. Last Thursday, my wife and I made the Irish Cream, which is a knock off of Bailey's Irish Cream™, and drank it that night. Here's all you have to do:

  1. Purchase your base alcohol and extract.
  2. Clean a 750 ml bottle (most of you have a spare bottle lying about).
  3. Pour the extract into the clean bottle.
  4. Using a funnel, add sugar, if any, per the instruction on the bottle.
  5. Fill the bottle with the alcohol and shake until the sugar is dissolved.
  6. Pour into a glass and drink!

It is really that simple and that good. In addition, although it is still a little early to start thinking about Christmas, this will make excellent gifts.

For something new, fun and easy, make a liquer!
