Your order arrived safely and was complete. Not a dent in the box. I've
just mixed all of the ingredients of the black currant fruit mix and
will let the must sit for a while; I will follow the yeast package
instructions faithfully and add it later.
My grandfather grew his own black currants and made a delicious wine
that I grew up on. I hope that this batch will approach it. Of course,
it was aged 15-20 years before I had my first taste (probably around age
5). It was usually well oxidized as it would sit in a merely stoppered
decanter between the special occasions when we had it.
I would give you 5 stars on your service, but since I ordered it direct
I will have to tell you. Or is there someplace on the net that I could
make a comment about your service?

I got your information from WineMaker magazine and I now have you bookmarked for all my wine making supplies. Although I married into the family - I took over the family wine-making duties from grandpa who came over from the "old country" in the 50's. I was fortunate enough to learn from him a few years before he passed away (at 90). I produce just under 100 gallons of dego red (a blend of red zin and carignane) from Napa Valley grapes every year - which keeps everyone happy and healthy. I'd like to try aging 10 gallons in an oak barrel this year so I'll be placing another soon.

I just want to thank you for your help and advice. The three boxes arrived
on Thursday. I took Friday off so I could get my "winery" setup in the
kitchen. Everything was in perfect condition. The packing was excellent.
Please thank your brother for me. He said I would have a lot of packing
material. He was right - I hauled off 3 huge garbage bags of foam peanuts
to the recycle bin.
I'm using a couple of frozen 1/2 gallon milk containers to keep the must
temperature down a bit. I've just tucked them into a storage tub with the
bucket and covered it with a towel. It's working very well. They last about
10 hours, so I just swap them with two others in the freezer each morning
when I leave for work and when I come home each evening. The room
temperature is about 79 degrees, but the must is steady at 72. Probably not
a viable long-term cooling strategy, but I'm trying to be extra careful this
first time. I had no idea how active the fermentation would be. Those little
bubbles of CO2 really create a "dancing fizz" on the surface. The SG is down
to 1.030.
I think I see another wine kit and carboy in my future.

Thanks so much for your wonderful, fast service. When I first started making wine, I tried using local suppliers. They don't compare to you for friendly customer service, price, or knowledge. You get all my business. I've even sold my neighbors on getting their wine kits from you. We live 45 miles from the closest supplier and its so much easier and cheaper getting things delivered right to the door than to drive down the mountain to order, then later to go back to pick them up. Online ordering any time of day and 2-3 days later, it's on my deck waiting to be opened. Priceless!
The forums are wonderful as are the people who post to them. If only all that knowledge and experience could be bottled. Although I'm a newbie, I have gotten hooked on reading the forums and checking the postings. Those folks are great! Thanks for providing a place for everyone to meet.

The article on keeping your hands off the racking tube after secondary fermentation was GREAT.
I too, like I'll bet a number of other compulsive types look at that nice clear wine in the carboy and cringe at the thought of stirring up all that crude again before fining and clearing. Why clear what is already clear?Right? Well the article was great in saving me from doing the same thing while nobody is looking and despite the warnings in the instructions. Hey -- don't worry about it -- these are the problems a small businessman would HOPE to have! Stepping out of my "I'm your customer" role, it likely is a matter of scale -- and, in this instance, the fact that one item is 5258....and the other is 5258A -- only a digit off, and the last digit at that, and the "picker" looks at the order and sees the first digits...but not the last.... and, well, YOU know!
